The Nyakagezi group; the only habituated group in Mgahinga National Park left the country on November 18, last year and returned last Thursday from Rwanda which is being treated as an “Independence Day gift.”
According to the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) spokesperson, Lillian Nsubuga, This is the longest time the group has spent in Rwanda, as they often cross the border and come-back after a short time.

Nsubuga was not sure when the tracking of the group would resume. She however said that Uganda wildlife Authority (UWA) had started monitoring the Gorillas, and so far they have not charged at the trackers meaning that they are still habituated, which is an indication that tracking by tourists could begin soon.

Half of the 700 mountain gorillas in the world are found in the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The rest occupy the Virungas mountains, which straddle Uganda (Mgahinga), <a href =" http://www.uganda-safaris.co.ug/extended-safaris/rwanda-safaris.html

Objections to the drilling of 10 more wells in Murchison Falls National Park by Heritage Oil have been raised by Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA).

According to UWA boss Moses Mapesa, UWA objects to the drilling of the ten wells at the same time. “It has to be phased. We cannot have such a big number of camps in the park.” Said Mr. Mapesa.
He also says that the oil company also needs to explain what it intends to do with the soil that comes out, which is contaminated.

Conservationists and tourism stakeholders earlier expressed concern that drilling a big number of wells simultaneously would chase away the animals and the tourists.

NEMA plans to organise a high-level technical meeting on October 13 with officials of the ministries of energy and environment, the oil companies, conservation and tourism stakeholders to discuss the concerns.
