Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Uganda was recently ravaged by fire.
The Wild fire which consumed 3 square kilometers of Mgahinga National park has finally been brought under control.
The wild fire is believed to have been set by a local resident who was illegally harvesting honey in the Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda on Saturday the 18th.
Uganda Wild life Authority chief communications officer Lillian Nsubuga said that the fire spread to the Eastern part of Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, but says that no golden monkey or gorilla was caught up in the infernal, though she did not rule out the impact caused by the fire.
From Sunday the UPDF and a team of 1000 civilians have been fighting the fire using rudimentary methods including the use of tree brunches, and had put it under control by 10:00pm on Sunday night.
The fire had not affected tourism activities, saying intervention was aimed at preventing it from spreading into the tourism trails.
