KIBALE LOCAL COMMUNITY BENEFITS FROM TOURISM

6th July, 2009 - Posted by admin - No Comments

Districts surrounding Kibale National Park were recently given sh111m by Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA).

The funds are the 20% benefit given to local communities as an incentive, from profit made from the wildlife reserves and national parks as required by law.

UWA has in the last eight years given sh1.5b as 20% of all funds collected from parks to the districts. The money is used to provide, roads, safe and clean drinking water and electricity facilities, and these facilities are meant to help change lives and also reduce the population’s abuse of natural resources through activities like poaching.
