BWINDI IMPENETRABLE GORILLA NATIONAL PARK

Bwindi impenetrable National Park is located in the South Western part of Uganda in the Albertine rift, on the edge of the western rift valley.
The park is a habitat to 326 gorillas almost half of the world's population of mountain gorillas. The forest which is coldest in June-July has a wide range of species including 120 species of mammals, over 200 species of butterflies, 7 diurnal primates, about 30 elephants and 360 species of birds. Bwindi Impenetrable forest has about 324 tree species including vines, shrubs and ferns of which 10 don't occur else in Uganda.
The park spread over the districts of Kabale, Rukungiri and Kisoro Districts, lies at an altitude Range of 1160 metres to 2607 metres above sea level, with an annual average temperature Range being 7-20 degrees Celsius and precipitation at 1130 mm - 2390 mm.

 

GORILLA TRACKING IN BWINDI

Gorilla trekking is a major tourist attraction in Bwindi with four gorilla groups. The 4 groups are available daily foe tracking but its absolutely necessary that bookings for Gorilla Permits are done at least 3 months in advance to ensure availability. The groups include Nkuringo group comprising of 19 gorillas and 2 silver backs was opened in July 2002, Rushegura group comprising of 10 gorillas and 1 silverback was opened in July 2002, Habinyanja group, comprising of 18 gorillas and 1 silverback, opened in July 1998, and Mubare group, comprising of 10 gorillas and 1 silverback opened in 1993. Only 8 persons can track per group.
Gorilla tracking experience starts at 8:30 am and can last the whole day. However, gorillas tracking can be quite challenging and guests should ensure physical fitness.

What to bring for the most adventurous day!

  • Carry rain gear/Rain Jacket, insect repellant, a hat and sun screen as the whether is unpredictable.
  • Wear Jungle shoes for steep muddy slopes.
  • Ear plugs for those who feel un-comfortable with jungle sounds.
  • Packed Lunch
